Avana (commonly known as Avanafil) is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, which help increase blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. Here's how to use it effectively:
1. Dosage
Avana is typically prescribed in 50 mg, 100 mg, or 200 mg doses. The usual starting dose is 100 mg.
Your doctor will determine the right dosage for you based on your health, response to the medication, and any other medications you may be taking.
2. Timing
Take Avana about 15-30 minutes before sexual activity. It can start working as soon as 15 minutes after taking it.
It's effective for up to 6 hours, allowing for some flexibility in timing.
3. With or Without Food
Avana can be taken with or without food. However, a high-fat meal may slow down its effectiveness, so it's better to avoid heavy meals when planning to take it.
4. Sexual Stimulation Required
Avana will not cause an erection on its own. Sexual stimulation is necessary for it to work.
5. Do Not Overuse
Do not take more than one dose of Avana in a 24-hour period. Taking more will not increase its effectiveness and may increase the risk of side effects.
6. Side Effects
Common side effects include headache, flushing, nasal congestion, and dizziness.
Serious side effects are rare but can include sudden vision loss, hearing loss, or an erection that lasts more than 4 hours (priapism). Seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
7. Consult with a Doctor
Before taking Avana, discuss your medical history with your doctor, especially if you have heart problems, low blood pressure, or are taking other medications (especially nitrates).
8. Storage
Store Avana at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
Always follow your doctor's instructions when using Avana. Do not self-prescribe or change your dosage without consulting a healthcare professional.
