- In 1938, Jack Starnes founded Valley Roof and Insulation Co., of Chico, CA. After 12 years of running the business, he decided to partner with his two sons, Ted and Robert Starnes.
- They renamed the business Butte Roofing Company in March 1950, and a new era was born.
- In 1963, after Jack passed away, Ted and Robert took over the company.
- In 1964, Ted bought his brother's share to become the sole proprietor of Butte Roofing Company.
- Ted's son, Mike, began roofing with the company in 1972 after graduating high school.
- Ted ran a successful business and retired in 1997, leaving his son, Mike, to run the company.
- Having worked in the business for almost 40 years, Mike has a wealth of knowledge and experience in all facets of roofing.
- The grandson of Robert Starnes (Bobby) also works as an experienced roofer and project manager for Butte Roofing Co.
- Butte Roofing has always maintained a family-operated atmosphere, and currently employs 5 family members.
