The highly versatile Watts Solo Chainsaw Mill provides convenience and durability in a single tool for transforming raw logs into lumber. How it all started...
I was cutting firewood on a Saturday afternoon, when my daughter asked if I could make a bigger guinea pig cage? Without much thought I said yes of course. We then went to the hardware store to purchase hinges, netting, and of course, some wood.
I was surprised the cost of the wood (100×25 and 150×25 untreated pine), which equated to hundreds of dollars.
After the cage was built I went back to cutting firewood. Then the penny dropped. Why was I cutting this log for firewood, when I could be cutting it into flinches (slabs). I'd be able to make my own lumber which would be a lot cheaper than buying it. I have a chainsaw, all I required was a mill to bolt it too.
As an engineer I knew what I was looking for, but could not find a chainsaw mill online that ticked all my boxes.
So, I made my own utilising my ladder as the straight edge to give me perfect true cuts. Then to ensure it ran effortlessly along the log without scuffing I added wheels.
When I went to the local Stihl shop to get a chain for my mill they suggested it could be a saleable item. So I started marketing it.
