NAKA Designs, LLC (the word Naka is the name of a Kanji character meaning interior; or the place-within) is an architectural and interior design firm in Denver formed in 2007 by former members of a large architectural practice who had been working together on alpine village, ranch stewardship and luxury residential design. The founding partners of NAKA Designs, LLC came together to expand their practice into what they call "lifestyle design". The impulse for doing so was sparked by a desire to return to a more focused and enjoyable process of architecture and interior design - one which allows for a more intimate connection to projects and a more personal relationship with clients. What we at NAKA Designs, LLC wish to do differently with our client-oriented approach also has to do with the formation of true partnerships with developers, contractors, consultants, artists and owners (in a literal and a philosophic sense) to attempt to ensure that everyone benefits from the design exercise and all participants thoroughly enjoy the process of revelation, renewal, planning and design. We consider this to be a more holistic approach to the design process where, once again, all participants find pleasure in the experience, appreciate the project goals, visualize the eventual outcome and finish the work with complete success - ready to move on to life's next challenge.

The aspiration to rethink the process of design stems also from the acceptance of the responsibilities inherent in stewardship. Within the context of our practice, stewardship is defined as, "the focused attempt to heal our landscapes and our communities through the thoughtful promotion of adaptive reuse and renovation, the utilization of a level of craftsmanship that fosters conservation, and the protection of natural resources through sustainable design". This notion can only be successful through communication and collaboration with our clients and project partners.

The final, though critical element which completes our definition of "lifestyle design" has to do with the promotion of a wider understanding of the richness inherent in communal diversity. We plan to invite our clients, industry partners, neighbors, and friends alike to come together in our office and our neighborhood and join us in exploring the remarkably insatiable curiosity of mankind. To do so, we will host events that will provide opportunities for curious minds to experience and contribute to the study of diversity and its affect on design.

We look forward to a future filled with rewarding friendships, sustainable partnerships and diverse adventures.
