Garage door remotes are a godsend, especially if you're back from a long day of work and you don't have the energy to get out of your car and open the garage doors yourself. That's why it's such a nuisance when your garage door remote is not working somehow. But a lot of reasons can make your garage door remote malfunction, from dead batteries to faulty wiring. As a garage door owner, here's what you need to know on why your garage door remote is not working consistently. Garage Door Lock is Engaged If you've pressed the remote's buttons several times and still get no response from your garage door, the first thing you should check is if you've left the lock button on. Determine whether you've engaged lock mode your garage doors before you decide that your garage remote is at fault. If the light on the garage door panel is blinking, then your garage door's lock mode is activated. Just turn the lock mode off and your problem is solved. The Batteries are Drained Another usual cause for your garage door remote not working consistently is the batteries themselves. Remote batteries have a working life of two years, so if the last time you've changed the batteries was nearly two years ago, then the current batteries are likely used up. If you're the type to completely use up your batteries' power, it's best if you keep spare batteries for the remote. That way, you won't have to rush to the store to get replacement ones. Remote Signals are Disrupted If the door lock and battery fix did not solve your garage door remote problem, then the next likely problem is poor remote signal transmission. It's either you're too far from the transmitter or damage to the receiving antennae. The transmission range is 20 ft so if you're beyond that range the remote won't work. If the distance is not the problem, then check the antennae for any faults. Check the antennae for dirt build-up, damages, or correct orientation. If you see that the antennae are damaged, call professional garage door repairmen to have them replaced. Remote Needs to Be Reprogrammed In the instance that none of the previous fixes solved your remote problems, you can try reprogramming the remote to see if it could repair the remote. Just follow these simple steps: Press the automatic garage door opener's learn button. Hold for three seconds or until the LED lights blink. Test the remote if reprogramming is successful Here is a short video that will show you how to reprogram your garage door opener.
