Eventually routine maintenance on your driveway or parking lot will need to be supplemented with repair work. Repairing necessary areas ensures that damage will not continue to spread throughout the existing driveway, parking lot, or road. Potholes, alligator cracking, standing areas of water, and depressions in asphalt are signs that seal coating and crack filling are no longer sufficient. Once these take place, structural problems to the sub base have occurred. If these problems comprise more then 35% of your property, a complete grade and pave overhaul of your property may be necessary.

Sommerset Paving, removed and replace multiple driveways in this subdivision. The driveways were seal coated the next year which is always recommended to be done the following season as good preventive maintenance, then every 2-3 years after that.

I have given some thought as to what sold me on Sommerset Paving. After some reflection on the entire driveway replacement process, there were several factors that influenced my opinion of the end to end process.

I must give kudos to Victor for two things. He was an excellent communicator always replying promptly to questions. AND, importantly, he was a good listener ... a lost art today. It would seem he is not easily ruffled and that he has vast quantities of patience. I was coordinating with him to replace the driveways for myself and multiple other neighbors.

As we moved to implement, I was very impressed with Keith, who managed the paving crew ... and even more impressed with his team! Two things stood out there. There was a clear sense of team, coupled with a sense of humor. Everyone pitched in and there were no slackers. A good team that works cohesively is not an easy thing to build and once built it is even harder to hold on to. It was also nice to see Victor actively working with the team ... not afraid to get his hands dirty. I guess he is more than just a pretty face!

I was also highly impressed with the gentleman who did the grading. It was almost like he could sense what needed to be done and how the grade could be improved. He was an artist as much as anything. He detected a spongy spot due to all the clay in the soil after grading the driveway that he ultimately dug out and filled back in with aggregate. This will save money over the long term.

Finally, there is Sue, who does all the scheduling and rescheduling as required by any number of factors including weather and customer needs. Again, great communications and a sense of humor. She gave me some insight on how hard it is to coordinate this work.
