Walker Veterinary Hospital

Thank You! Your rating has been saved.

Walker Veterinary Hospital opened its doors in the 1960's as a freestanding veterinary hospital. The practice was limited to small animals and has continued to treat them exclusively to this day. When the hospital was first built it was located in the middle of zinnia and tomato fields. Today it is surrounded by Costco to the east, a shopping center that includes Walgreen's to the north, Kaiser across West Lane to the west, and businesses and residences to the south.

The original owner, Dr. Lowell C. Walker, hired Dr. Richard Boden on November 1, 1979. Dr. Boden had a year and a half's experience working at a mixed practice located here in Stockton. On October 1, 1988 Dr. Boden and an associate took over ownership of the hospital. Since changing ownership, Walker Veterinary Hospital has added many improvements. An ultrasonic dental machine (the same used in human dentistry), a pulse-oximeter and a Vet Test blood testing machine, used for in-house blood testing and faster laboratory results. Dr. Boden is one of only a few doctors in San Joaquin County who has Ultrasound diagnostic equipment and experience.

In January 2008, digital radiography replaced the old hand developed x-ray equipment. We now get detailed x-rays that can be processed and viewed faster, can be sent to a specialist via the internet, and a copy of the x-ray(s) can be burned to a CD and given to the owner to have in their possession. To increase client knowledge and overall experience the hospital has added VCR units in each exam room, as well as the dog and cat reception lobbies, so informative or recreational videos can be played. Mid September 2006, we completely upgraded the computer system in the hospital with a state of the art wireless network that allows us to send regular mail or e-mail reminders, place your pet's picture on all invoices and certificates, and too many other upgrades to mention here.

Dr. Boden was born in 1954 in Florida, but was raised in New Jersey. After completing his veterinary studies at Kansas State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1978, he joined a mixed practice (large & small animals) here in Stockton. In 1979 he joined Dr. Lowell Walker at Walker Veterinary Hospital. After working for nine years as an associate, he bought out Dr. Walker. He is a member of The American Veterinary Medical Association, the California Veterinary Medical Association and the Northern San Joaquin Veterinary Medical Association. He is an associate of the Associated Veterinary Emergency Services located on Hammer Lane in Stockton, California.
